One summer I decided to do a wearable art project entitled "Wearing Ourselves Out". Two years later I finished it.

 

As it was my first wearable art project there were the usual bumps of securing models, fitting the costumes, finding locations, and faulty cameras. Despite the timespan and inexperience, the heart of the project remained alive throughout it's rocky and experimental life.

 

This project is based on history's continued use of outward appearance to show rank, status, occupation, position and power. These symbols take the form of clothing, jewellery and face-paint. Each culture has their own set of symbols.

 

Wearing Ourselves Out is an attempt to pull together different eras and cultures to create themed costumes that represent a single idea.
